Harmonic Expands Video Server Product Family with New StreamLiner® Flash Servers

– Edge Server Optimized For Storing and Serving Popular Content at Regional Hubs, Significantly Reduces Price-Per-Stream –

Sunnyvale, Calif. - September 8, 2008 - Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced the continued expansion of its on-demand solutions portfolio with the introduction of the StreamLiner® 2000 Flash memory video servers. This latest addition to Harmonic's StreamLiner product family enables operators to optimize throughput and provide more concurrent streams for popular content at regional hubs, while reducing price per stream by a significant margin. The new Flash-based models complement Harmonic's RAM and disk-based StreamLiner video servers, and are easily integrated with the company’s Armada® intelligent content distribution network (CDN) management system. These powerful and highly scalable software-based solutions provide operators with a unified on-demand streaming platform easily tailored to accommodate popular and long-tail content delivery, and are ideal for servicing a range of video-on-demand (VOD) and time-shifted TV applications and architectures.

"Harmonic continues to introduce technologies that enable operators to successfully deploy advanced video services," said Edwin Ko, Senior On-Demand Solutions Manager, Harmonic Inc. "Harmonic's StreamLiner Flash servers exemplify our ability to deliver new solutions that enhance network efficiencies and optimize the on-demand architecture. By bringing a Flash-based solution to the edge, we are maximizing streaming throughput and system reliability, while delivering a cost-efficient and scalable edge server that minimizes rack space and power consumption. Harmonic's complete and fully integrated on-demand software portfolio provides operators with unparalleled flexibility in designing and scaling their networks to meet current requirements and future needs."

The dense two rack-unit (2-RU) StreamLiner Flash solution integrates seamlessly with StreamLiner RAM and disk-based servers within the same cluster, enabling operators to cost-effectively address the requirements of typical long-tail VOD demand curves. The Armada content distribution system intelligently enables operators to optimize network bandwidth and asset storage. For example, Armada can dynamically determine the popularity of each asset and move it to and from the edge as required. The solution is integrated with Harmonic’s powerful NMX Digital Service Manager™, which provides a complete view and control of the entire broadcast and on-demand video delivery path.

This newest addition to the StreamLiner product family, along with Harmonic's extensive on-demand solutions portfolio, will be on display at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam, stand #1.C61, September 12-16.
