Forward Error Correction

The rise of premium services such as HDTV have made IP video transmission a crucial instrument for service providers. Implementing this new technology, however, has produced its own set of challenges, to which Forward Error Correction (FEC) is a workable solution. By transmitting data packets in rows with FEC packets attached to them, FEC enables receivers to restore lost or corrupted data to its original state. Read Harmonic’s white paper for an examination of the challenges of implementing video IP distribution, three ways (row, column and 2D) to address these issues with FEC, and which configuration is best suited for different scenarios.
