NIU 9301
FLXLink™ T1/E1 Network Interface Unit

The FLXLink T1/E1 solution delivers a combination of four T1/E1 circuits and one 100-Mbps Ethernet service on a secure dedicated CWDM wavelength.

Operators looking to increase efficiency in the delivery of commercial services can take advantage of Harmonic’s modular, scalable, and secure FLXLink CWDM Access Solutions. With these solutions, operators can deploy multiple 100 Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet or T1 services to businesses without the need for active devices in the field. Harmonic’s FLXLink solutions leverage existing infrastructure and optimize new fiber construction by aggregating up to 10 commercial customers on the same fiber used for video distribution in the HFC system. Secure transport is achieved via dedicated wavelengths for each customer or site. A modular architecture allows for easy scalability, and the protocol-independent design means that the solution can be seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure.

The FLXLink T1 network interface unit (NIU 9301-xx-LC-1) serves as a multiplexer over 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet. It multiplexes four T1 services transparently over a Fast Ethernet link and converts them from an electrical to an optical interface and vice-versa for a particular CWDM wavelength. The NIU 9301 also serves as a 100BASE-T to CWDM media converter. This T1 multiplexer is used for applications including cell phone tower back haul and local PBX service.

FLXLink T1 over Ethernet does not require traffic management or jitter buffering and no Ethernet overhead is used to transport T1 signals. Most importantly, FLXLink’s NIU9301 is compatible with legacy TDM services, protocols and signaling, making it an ideal solution for these applications.

Harmonic’s FLXLink NIU 9301 is available in a chassis-mounted or remote unit.

The FLXLink T1 group of products includes:
