Harmonic Shows the Future of Video Delivery With SaaS, IP Workflows and UHD Solutions at BroadcastAsia2018

June 13, 2018
3-Minute Read
The migration to software-as-a-service (SaaS) for media processing is currently underway and expected to accelerate, as broadcasters and content service providers explore new ways to increase their agility and operational efficiencies. In sync with the theme for BroadcastAsia2018, “Capture the Future,” Harmonic will showcase its SaaS media processing, all-IP workflows and UHD HDR live-streaming and playout solutions.
“Today’s content and service providers are looking for agile and operationally efficient solutions to deliver an even better quality of experience to their audiences with higher video quality and lower latency across all screens,” said Tony Berthaud, vice president of sales, APAC at Harmonic. “At BroadcastAsia2018, we’re excited to share our world-class media processing, live-streaming, and playout solutions. Leveraging the latest innovations in software and the cloud, our solutions speed up time to market for OTT services, unlock new workflow efficiencies leveraging software and IP and provide an end-to-end workflow for UHD HDR video delivery.”
Highlights include:
Speed Up OTT Delivery, Boost QoE With Media Processing Innovations in the Cloud
Harmonic’s VOS™ 360 media processing SaaS will be a key highlight at BroadcastAsia2018. VOS 360 unifies the entire media processing chain, allowing operators to launch new OTT offerings quickly. A new feature that Harmonic will show at BroadcastAsia2018 is cloud-based channel origination, which enables operators to swiftly and dynamically create and deliver channels with greater flexibility and optimized cost.
Harmonic will also demonstrate its award-winning EyeQ™ content-aware encoding solution, which reduces bandwidth requirements for OTT delivery by up to 50 percent, decreases CDN costs and improves QoE.

In addition, Harmonic will demonstrate its new end-to-end UHD HDR solution for live sports streaming with low latency using the next-generation Common Media Application Format (CMAF) standard. The solution features Harmonic’s ViBE® CP9000 HD/UHD contribution encoder for ingest into the cloud and VOS 360 media processing SaaS for encoding, packaging, origin and OTT distribution.

Simplify Broadcast Production and Playout With UHD Media Server

Harmonic’s Spectrum™ X advanced media server simplifies production and broadcast workflows by handling a wide range of ingest, playout and distribution operations, along with providing proven reliability and exceptional video quality. Using the Spectrum X media server, broadcasters can fulfill the growing consumer demand for UHD video.

Transition to All-IP Workflows

Harmonic provides a complete IP workflow that includes production, playout and content delivery. At BroadcastAsia2018, Harmonic will demonstrate how its Spectrum X media server and Electra® media processor support the next-generation SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE ST 2022-6 and SMPTE ST 2022-7 suite of standards, enabling video content and service providers to make a smooth transition to all-IP workflows for both uncompressed and compressed delivery of live broadcast, OTT, IPTV and VOD content.
