Next-Generation Statistical Multiplexing
The Electra 8000 series enhances the efficiency and flexibility of statistical multiplexing with our DiviTrackIP™ technology for both LAN and distributed WAN environments. Electra 8000 encoders can support up to 300 ms of WAN roundtrip delay, auto-adjust to IP network variations and form pools of up to 64 channels each. The secondary path on the Electra 8200 can also participate in an independent statmux environment. Our DiviTrackMX™ technology integrates multiplexing within the Electra chassis, enabling a multichannel, closed-loop “statmux in a box.” This optional feature improves efficiency by 10-15% versus the same channels encoded in CBR, increasing video quality and overall channel capacity.
Industry-Leading Pre-Processing Technology
Integrated noise-reduction capabilities — including our signature motion-compensated temporal filtering (MCTF), mosquito noise reduction and sharpening, and adaptive deblocking filter — dramatically improve encoding quality.
Hierarchical LookAhead Multi-Pass Encoding
Harmonic Hierarchical LookAhead™ encoding employs a dedicated H.264 compression processor to fully analyze incoming video content, including algorithms, to detect fade/dissolve and scene-cut transitions, and then proactively apply the most-efficient encoding strategy. This innovative preprocessing technology delivers the highest possible video quality at the lowest possible bitrates.
Integrated High-Quality Second Output
The Electra 8200 encoder redefines the streaming of multi-resolution channels from the same video input — from low resolution for picture-in-picture (PIP) applications, all the way to full HD for IPTV or time-shifted TV.
Built-In Up/Down Converter
Integrating a high-quality scaling engine and motion compensated de-interlacing, the Electra 8200 reduces the cost and complexity of launching differentiated services, such as all-HD broadcasts of SD lineups. This feature is available on both main and secondary outputs of the Electra 8200.
High-Quality Integrated Decoding Option
The FLEX™ dual decoder option [link to FLEX data sheet] delivers highly flexible video and audio decoding capabilities as an option for Electra 8000 encoders. A single FLEX module decodes up to two incoming channels of AVC or MPEG-2 video in either SD or HD 4:2:0 formats, eliminating the dependency on ingress formats. The option enables delivery of precompressed video to any Electra encoder, and supports both ASI and IP inputs.
Rich Audio Toolset
The Electra 8000 series can natively encode up to three stereo pairs in formats such as MPEG-1 Layer II, Dolby® Digital (AC-3, 2.0), and AAC/HE-AAC. It also supports a variety of optional audio adapters designed to address diverse audio processing scenarios such as transcoding from Dolby E sources. Optional Electra audio input modules (AHC-RAC, AHC-561) can extend the functionality and density of Electra 8000 encoders to address a variety of audio processing scenarios, including transcoding from Dolby E sources, and transcoding from AC-3 to E-AC-3.
Easy-to-Use System Management
Electra 8000 encoders can be easily configured through a standalone web interface or with the Harmonic NMX™ Digital Service Manager video network management solution.
